BTS ‘ARIRANG’ Tour: 14 Sold-Out Shows, 853,000 in South America
BTS 'ARIRANG' Tour drew 853,000 people across 14 sold-out shows in five South American cities. The leg wrapped at São Paulo’s Morumbi Stadium on Oct. 28 and Oct. 30–31 (local time).
The tour began in Bogotá on Oct. 2, then visited Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires and São Paulo. BTS held its first full-group performances in Colombia and Argentina, made its first visit to Peru, and returned to Chile after nine years and Brazil after seven. I’m cheering BTS for bringing those first full-group performances to Colombia and Argentina.
BTS 'ARIRANG' Tour paired tracks from the fifth full-length album, “ARIRANG,” with hits including “FAKE LOVE,” “MIC Drop,” “FIRE,” “Butter” and “Dynamite.” The setlist included rotating surprise song picks. The group also delivered jokes in local languages and wore outfits combining Hangul design with South American colors.
During the La Plata concerts, audience spending on lodging and transport was estimated at about 46 billion won; Santiago’s economic impact was estimated at about 72 billion won. Bogotá air bookings rose 46.6% year over year, while ride-hailing in Lima reached as much as 48 times its usual level.
BTS described the South American leg as one of the happiest memories of their lives and said they would return soon to give back the emotion they received. The Asia-Oceania tour is scheduled to start in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on Nov. 19, with stops including Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m cheering BTS on as the next leg begins in Kaohsiung.
